It is in the middle and upper reaches of the Huaihe River, at the junction of the two provinces, the Dabie Mountains in the south and the Huanghuai Plain in the north. In July 1951, the People's Government of Henan Province analyzed one of Gushi and Xixian, and set up a county-level office. Huaibin was named after the Huaihe River.
